The Blue Hill Heritage Trust is proud to be an official partner in the Acadia Centennial. To support and celebrate this milestone year for Acadia National Park we are hosting a series of talks about the park in partnership with Downeast Audubon. We will also be leading as a series of hikes in ANP this late spring.

This lecture is the first in a three-part series that Downeast Audubon, in partnership with Blue Hill Heritage Trust are sponsoring to focus on the Acadia National Park Centennial. For the first lecture, Ruth and Duane Braun, established geologists of the region, will discuss the global tectonics history of the area, how MDI was put together and how glaciations sculpted the present landscape around us. Ruth and Duane have co-authored a new book, The Geologic Guide to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park to be published in June 2016.

Title: Acadia Passages: Perspectives on the History of Our Park
Presenter: Jack Russell

This lecture is the second in a three-part series that Downeast Audubon, in partnership with Blue Hill Heritage Trust are sponsoring to focus on the Acadia National Park Centennial. Jack Russell will share his life long connection to Mount Desert and the Park. Born on the island and having survived the 1947 fire, Jack has a great understanding of the origins of Acadia, in what ways it has influenced land conservation and how it has enriched our communities. Currently, he is co-chair of the Acadia Centennial Task Force.

Title: Acadia’s Wildlife: A Field Report for the 21st Century
Presenter: Seth Benz

This lecture is the third lecture in a three-part series that Downeast Audubon, in partnership with Blue Hill Heritage Trust are sponsoring to focus on the Acadia National Park Centennial. Seth Benz has been a former interpretive ranger for ANP and now engages people of all ages in Citizen Science. Currently, he is the director of the Bird Ecology Lab at Schoodic Institute. His slide presentation will present a perspective on the wildlife of Acadia as the park celebrates its 100th anniversary, and give a glimpse into the future, particularly about the anticipated changes with birdlife.
