BHHT has a New Executive Director and Office Headquarters!

HANS CARLSON: New BHHT Executive Director Hired.

Blue Hill Heritage Trust’s Board Directors recently completed the search process for the organization’s next Executive Director and have announced the hiring of Hans Carlson. Carlson was the director of Great Mountain Forest, a not-for-profit foundation located in northwestern Connecticut that owns and manages 6000 acres of forest land until he started working for us on January 1, 2017.

Carlson is an environmental and forest historian by training, and holds a Ph.D degree from the University of Maine. He is a native New Englander and an avid outdoorsman who has canoed, hiked and snowshoed throughout New England and eastern Canada.  He began working with us in December so as to have a month of overlap with retiring Executive Director Jim Dow to smooth the transition.

“We are pleased that Hans has agreed to be the new leader of our superb team,” said Norm Alt, Board President and chair of the search committee. “The Board and I are confident that he has the skills and energy to continue our upward trajectory.”

“I am very excited to be moving back to Maine and especially the Blue Hill region,” said Carlson. “I am honored to have been chosen to lead BHHT. I am looking forward to meeting folks and getting to know the seven towns in the Trust’s service area.”

NEW OFFICE LOCATION

We recently decided that it was time to move to a new location since we were getting “too big for our britches” at the beloved Carleton House of 1815. Knight Architecture decided to retire and their lovely office was up for grabs! If you haven’t been by yet to see what we’ve done to make it our new headquarters, you are very welcome to stop by! We have comfortable office furniture for you to sit on and chat with us, and we always have our maps, t-shirts, hats, and bags for sale! Or come over and learn about our lands and trails and how your membership helps us protect, preserve, and maintain the lands and trails and provide for your recreational and educational enjoyment! Other opportunities are coming where we will hold events here at the office, so check out our Events Calendar for those details! Don’t be a stranger! We love visitors!
