We’ve got just $40,000 more to go to conserve more of Caterpillar Hill, thanks to $365,000 in generous private donations, as well as a $200,000 award from Land For Maine’s Future. Help get us over the top today!
To make a contribution towards the Caterpillar Hill Project:
Blue Hill Heritage Trust, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and Island Heritage Trust have joined together to raise funds to buy a 32-acre property on Caterpillar Hill that is central to the roadside vista over Penobscot Bay and beyond. The views from Caterpillar Hill are breathtaking, and they are meaningful to both residents and visitors alike. All three trusts believe that this community resource should be forever protected, and Blue Hill Heritage Trust will be the eventual owner.
This property has frontage on both Route 15 and the Walker Pond, and the plan is to provide a more natural setting than the current pullout, with expanded opportunities for viewing and picnicking. The wooded portion of the land nearer Walker Pond will be kept undeveloped.
Blue Hill Heritage Trust has an option to purchase, giving the three trusts until September 30, 2018 to raise funds for initial acquisition, upfront costs, and basic ongoing costs. Funding has come from both grants and private donors, including a $200,000 grant from Land for Maine’s Future. This place is important to people throughout the region, a fact recognized by town support of this project, and gifts can go through any of the trusts.
Please consider joining us in making Caterpillar Hill an incredible asset for us all to enjoy.
Total Project Cost: $605,000 (including purchase, upfront and basic ongoing costs)
