Blue Hill Mountain
Additional 108 Acres Conserved for Wildlife and People
WHAT: A 108-acre property located in Blue Hill, extending from the northeast slope of Blue Hill Mountain to the shore of Noyes Pond and its associated wetland. The land is undeveloped and predominantly forested with hardwood, softwood and mixed stands with mature components. The parcel is contiguous with the Town of Blue Hill’s 175 acre conservation parcel and land owned by our Trust, and is in close proximity to other land owned by our Trust near the summit.

WHY: Blue Hill Mountain is one of the defining elements of the Blue Hill Peninsula landscape. It holds important scenic and recreational values, as well as historic, spiritual and wildlife values. Our Trust and the Town of Blue Hill together now own 472 acres on Blue Hill Mountain. This property protects a large part of the northeast slope of the mountain, preserves several acres of wetlands north of Noyes Pond that are identified as ‘significant inland waterfowl and wading bird habitat’ by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and preserves a wildlife corridor between the mountain conservation lands and Noyes Pond. It also includes a large area of mature forest and provides an opportunity to extend the well-used hiking trail system on Blue Hill Mountain to the shore of Noyes Pond.
HOW MUCH: The total cost of the project is $218,000, which includes the acquisition costs ($201,266) and, as required by our acquisition policy, an addition to our Stewardship Fund to help cover long-term management costs.
