‘Say that your main crop is the forest you did not plant, that you will not live to harvest. Say that the leaves are harvested when they have rotted into the mold. Call that profit. Prophesy such returns. Put your faith in the two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years….
–Wendell Berry

Johanna grew up in the Bavarian Alps where she spent much of her time climbing trees and roaming the woods.  A graduate of Tufts University and the University of Maine, Johanna holds a Master’s degree in applied economics and one in global environmental policy.  She lives in Blue Hill and works at the Marine & Environmental Research Institute, also in Blue Hill.
