Mitchell Baum

“I grew up inConnecticut, spending hours in the woods with my dog. Nature was very important from the beginning. When we moved toNew York City, against my protests, I learned what it was like to go without. With time I saw not only the beauty of many loved places fade and disappear under the assault of bulldozers, but also a way of being and acting between people. That beauty and way of being are still here on the peninsula, and need to be valued and protected. I think people need another order beside that which they create and impose, to show them what is real and enduring. Nature provides that. I fear growing up without that, in a wholly man-made environment, in a culture of ‘virtual reality,’ a grounding that is essential, is lost.”
Mitchell enjoys landscape and nature photography, and is particularly interested in creating abstraction from the subjects he photographs.
