Protect Your Land

If you are considering protecting your land, please feel free to contact us and consult: Conservation Options- A Guide for Maine Land Owners.

Many conservation methods offer tax advantages, helping to reduce estate, income taxes, and property taxes. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

What is a conservation easement?

It is a legal document that limits the type and scope of development on your property. With this method, you can keep your land held in family ownership and the restrictions are upheld by BHHT in perpetuity.

Can I donate my land to Blue Hill Heritage Trust?

We often accept donations of land or conservation easements.  By making a donation, you can make a generous gift while benefiting from income and estate tax deductions.

Can I sell my land to Blue Hill Heritage Trust?

You may be able to sell your land or the development rights to Blue Hill Heritage Trust. There are various ways to sell your land through bargain sales, installment sales, right of first refusals, etc.

If you have questions, please contact our office. We would be happy to help you!
