We welcome your canine companion on most BHHT trails and ask you to please respect the following rules that are designed to keep people and their pets safe and happy while enjoying these shared spaces. Thank you!
Dogs are allowed OFF LEASH, as long as they respond to voice command, at the following properties:
- Surry Forest
- Meadowbrook Forest
- Penobscot Community Forest at Wallamatogus Mountain
- Penny’s Nature Preserve (Please note, once you cross the boundary to the Peters Brook Trail easement we ask that you leash your dog again)
Dogs are NOT ALLOWED on the following properties unless they are a service animal:
- Furth/Talalay Nature Sanctuaries
- Carter Nature Preserve’s Wood’s Trail (Dogs are allowed on the Shore Trail and Easement Loop Trail on leash)
Dogs are allowed on all other BHHT managed trails ON LEASH ONLY.
During deer hunting season, please be sure to properly mark your dog with blaze orange. It is a good idea to keep them on leash during deer hunting season on all properties.
