BHHT to Go Through a Leadership Transition in 2027

After 13 years of dedicated service to Blue Hill Heritage Trust, please join us in congratulating our Executive Director George Fields, who has shared his plans to retire, effective February, 2027.

With his longstanding dedication to Maine land-conservation efforts, George has been an important part of BHHT’s history, first serving in a stewardship role, then as an Associate Director, and ultimately as our Executive Director. During his time with the Trust, BHHT has undergone tremendous growth, including more than doubling conserved acreage – from nearly 6,327 acres in 2014 to more than 13,000 acres today.

George has also been a driving force behind the James W. Dow Internship Program, helping nurture the next generation of conservationists, creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and find their place in the conservation community. But numbers and programs only tell part of the story. George has given so much of his knowledge, time, energy, and heart to the Blue Hill Peninsula and to the people who care for this special place.

The BHHT Board of Directors has formed a committee to begin a nation-wide search for a new Executive Director. George will remain in his leadership role as Executive Director of BHHT through our current strategic planning process and will assist with the leadership transition.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to George or Brooke Parish, Board Chair, with any questions.

We are incredibly grateful for George’s leadership, friendship, and unwavering commitment to the Trust and our community. While we will certainly miss having George at the helm, we are excited as he begins his next chapter. And with a little more free time on his hands, we have a feeling he won’t be far from the great outdoors here in Maine.

Thank you, George, for 13 wonderful years and we’ll see you on the trails!
