Anne is a retired Foreign Service Officer and was the U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania from 2016-2019. Prior to that, she served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, where she worked on issues ranging from ocean protection and sustainable fisheries to ending the trade in ivory. She also served in Poland, where she led the U.S. Consulate in Krakow, as well as China, Brazil, and Colombia. She speaks to varying degrees, Lithuanian, Polish, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Although she lives in Blue Hill, Anne also spends as much time as she can at a camp her grandfather built on remote Munsungan Lake in the North Maine Woods. Growing up spending summers living off grid in the northern Maine forest, hiking, fishing, gathering raspberries and mushrooms, instilled in her a love and respect for wild places. Land stewardship, especially forests, has always been part of her life. She is also an avid sailor and enjoys trying her hand at woodworking.
Anne holds a Master’s degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas. She graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs. She also serves on the Board of Advisors of the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Maine.
